Starting today, the Hamptons International Film Festival is kicking off with their 2022 incarnation of the fest. HIFF, as it’s known, will be showing many of the season’s most anticipated titles, including The Banshees of Inisherin, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, She Said, The Whale, and Women Talking. This festival has long been known as any influential one and a pivotal stop for would be Academy Award hopefuls, with Oscar voters among the audiences watching the movies. The flicks that get a good response in the Hamptons at HIFF often end up with a leg up in the race, so it’s a festival well worth keeping an eye on!
Below, you can see more than two dozen films that I’ve selected as highlights at HIFF. This weekend, many will be screening, so if you’re in the area, definitely check them out. Who knows? You might even see me at one or two, if my schedule works out and I’m not preoccupied with the Mets and playoff baseball. Regardless of my presence, it’s sure to be a very good time once again out in the Hamptons…
This is a quote from Artistic Director David Nugent on the Hamptons programming this year:
“We are excited to once again have some of the most buzzed about films of the season coming to HIFF, the only Festival in the world to have screened the eventual best picture winner in 11 of the last 12 years. From THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, LIVING, THE WHALE, THE SON, WOMEN TALKING, and GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY and more, many of these films will have their first screenings on the East Coast at HIFF. We also have a lot of exciting talent that will be in attendance with these films, some of whom have been announced and others who will be a great surprise to our audiences. We are also excited to dig into the phenomenon that was EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE with our Winick Talks as we welcome the Daniels as well as this year’s Breakthrough Artist Award honoree Stephanie Hsu. We are also hosting a number of countries’ official Oscar submissions again this year, and this is also our 7th year in a row screening the film that won the Palme d’Or at Cannes earlier this year.”
