Aubrey Plaza Joins the Cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’

Aubrey Plaza has joined the cast of Francis Ford Coppola‘s next film, Megalopolis. The film has long been a passion project for the director, and it already includes a stacked cast with Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker and Nathalie Emmanuel attached so far. The acclaimed filmmaker wrote the script and is also funding the film himself.

The movie is expected to begin production later this year, and Coppola has stated the following regarding the film’s tone: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love”. The movie has a reported budget around $100 million.

Aubrey Plaza recently received great reviews for her performance in Emily the Criminal, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past January. You can find our own editor Joey Magidson’s review here, as well as his conversations with the actress here and here. Plaza is also set to star in the second season of HBO’s hit anthology series, The White Lotus.

Francis Ford Coppola’s last film has been Twixt, a horror movie released in 2011. Besides directing the project, Coppola also wrote the screenplay. Twixt told the story of Hall Baltimore (Val Kilmer), a writer who specialized in novels focusing in witch hunting. In his dreams, Baltimore is visited by strange entities determined to reveal a dark secret that haunts his hometown.
