Apple Original Films is developing another big project with The Wager. It will serve as an adaptation of David Grann‘s non-fiction book, which is launching in April of next year.
Martin Scorsese is attached to direct the film, while Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star in it. The duo collaborates together again, after delivering next year’s Killers of The Flower Moon, also for Apple and based on another of Grann’s books.
The Wager is set in the 1740s, and tells the story of thirty men who survived the sinking of a British ship and end up arriving to a Brazilian coast. The tale of their survival allowed them to become heroes.
In an unexpected turn of events, a second group of shipwreck survivors, this time consisting of only three men, arrive to the coast of Chile and accuses the original group of sailors of being mutineers.
The film will be produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Scorsese and DiCaprio themselves. Release dates haven’t been set by Apple for either of the highly anticipated movies.
