Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal To Star in Hulu’s Boxing Limited Series ‘La Máquina’

Searchlight TV has announced that Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are attached to star in their Spanish-language series set to debut on Hulu. La Máquina is the story of an aging boxer, (García Bernal) who is secured a final match for the championship by his manager (Luna). Unfortunately, they are forced to face a mysterious underworld force in order to make it to the fight.

The show will be directed by Gabriel Ripstein (600 Miles), while Marco Ramírez (Daredevil) will serve as showrunner. García Bernal and Luna will also produce the project under their La Corriente del Golfo banner.

This would be the third streaming series produced by Searchlight TV for The Walt Disney Company, after this year’s The Dropout and History of the World: Part II, a sequel to the 1981 film which is currently in development.

Gael García Bernal recently starred in the HBO Max Original Series Station Eleven, which tells the story about a group of people who live in an a post-apocalyptic world after surviving a terrible disease. Meanwhile, Diego Luna can be seen in the Star Wars spin-off series Andor, set to debut on Disney+ On August 31st.
