Searchlight Pictures Dates ‘Empire of Light’ For Late 2022 Release

Searchlight Pictures has dated Sam Mendes‘ latest movie, Empire of Light, to December 9th. The film, written and directed by Mendes, has a packed cast featuring Olivia Colman, Michael Ward, Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke, Toby Jones, and Colin Firth.

Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes will be producing the film, and the plot synopsis reads “Set in an English seaside town in the early 1980s, EMPIRE OF LIGHT is a powerful and poignant story about human connection and the magic of cinema from Academy Award® winning director Sam Mendes.”

Roger Deakins will be reuniting with Mendes for the cinematography after previously working with him with Skyfall and 1917, with the latter earning him his second Academy Award win for Best Cinematography in 2020.
