Deadline has learned that Guy Ritchie has been tapped to direct Disney’s live-action remake of Hercules. The director is currently filming an untitled action-thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Dar Salim, and Alexander Ludwig, so the live-action remake of Hercules could be his next movie. Ritchie had also directed the 2019 remake of Aladdin, which went on to make over $1 billion at the global box office when it was released.
Anthony Russo and Joe Russo will be co-producing the movie with their film studio, AGBO, with Dave Callaham writing a first draft of the screenplay. He recently wrote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
No other details have been given out, and Ritchie’s next movie, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, still does not have a release date after STX pulled the film without explanation a couple of weeks before it was slated to premiere in March.
