‘Blade Runner 2099’ Announced at Amazon

A Sequel to Blade Runner 2049 is underway at Amazon Studios, which will take place in the form of a TV series titled Blade Runner 2099. The series will follow up the events of the last movie, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve and starred Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Though it is unclear what the series will touch upon, Blade Runner director Ridley Scott will be heavily involved.

Silka Luisa will be writing the series and executive produce, while Scott will also produce, and may direct episodes of the show if it ever comes into fruition. It is known, however, that the series is currently being fast-tracked at Amazon, which has become a high-priority project for them to make.

No details are known on when production may begin, but if it is being fast-tracked means that we may get it sooner than later, and production could very well start up next year for a potential 2024 release. That’s a guess, but we’ll likely know more about the series as pre-production rolls along. This is the second “large-scale” series Amazon has developed, with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, set to release later this year.
