How I Met Your Mother was a generation-defining comedy about one man’s search for love that ended up being about much more than that. Though the original series signed off in 2014 after nine seasons on CBS, the spirit of friendship, romance, and general frivolousness is alive and well in a new sequel series. Hulu’s How I Met Your Father engages with a new set of friends as its main character, Sophie (Hilary Duff), tries to find the right person as her future self, played by Kim Cattrall, narrates an endless story to her son.
Awards Radar had the chance to speak with three core members of Sophie’s entourage: Francia Raisa, who plays Sophie’s roommate Valentina, Tom Ainsley, who plays Valentina’s British boyfriend Charlie, and Suraj Sharma, who stars as Sid, a bartender becomes part of Sophie’s circle of friends.
Asked what they thought audiences will enjoy most about your characters, here’s what these three said:
Ainsley: “I hope they enjoy Charlie’s optimism, his ability to pick himself up when things go wrong, because they do often go wrong for him. That’s something that I love about him, and I hope that people do the same.”
Sharma: “What I like about Sid is his loyalty and this really strange amount of security that he has. I hope people enjoy that, and, just know that there are people out there like Sid, and you can find them.”
Raisa: “I think Valentina is just a good time, and I hope the audience feels that way about her too.”
