“Based On Truly Possible Events”
The trailer for Don’t Look Up, the upcoming political satire from Academy Award winner Adam McKay has been released today. It is expected to be one of Netflix’s heavy hitters this upcoming awards season.
The film follows two low-level astronomers, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, as they go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of of an approaching comet that will destroy earth. The movie is a satirical allegory for climate change and an ensemble cast featuring DiCaprio, Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep.
Adam McKay co-writes and directs. Known for his absurdist comedies with Will Ferrell such as Step Brothers, Anchorman and Talladega Nights, McKay has recently been working on more prestige satires such as The Big Short and Vice, both of which earned him Academy Award nominations (the former earning him his first Oscar). This trailer seems to suggest that this will combine the wild absurdism of his earlier work and biting commentary of his recent work.
The film is set to have a limited theatrical release on December 10th, 2021, before streaming on Netflix on December 24th. Watch the trailer for Don’t Look Up below:
