It’s been over a decade since New Zealand director Jane Campion had a new feature released. That’s about to change in a big way. The female auteur has been getting mass acclaim for her newest film, The Power of the Dog, including from our own Joey Magidson here out of the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, released its official trailer this morning.
Netflix will release Campion’s latest in US theaters starting November 17th, with it subsequently being dropped on Netflix shortly after on December 1st.
Campion’s western premiered at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this fall before playing TIFF and is right in the discussion for major awards this season.
