The last time audiences saw Indiana Jones embark on a highly dangerous adventure was back in 2008 with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Thankfully, we will all be getting a brand new Indiana Jones movie in July of 2022, with Harrison Ford set to reprise his role as the titular character.
Principal photography on the new project officially kicked off on June 4, 2021, and we know that Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson, and Toby Jones have been cast in yet to be disclosed roles.
Adding on to that list now is Antonio Banderas. As with the rest of the cast (with the exception of Ford), we don’t yet know what character Banderas will portray but hopefully, we will learn more details relatively soon.
The brand new installment in the long-running franchise is set to be directed by James Mangold, making it the first entry in the series to not be directed by Steven Spielberg. Don’t worry though – the acclaimed filmmaker still serves as a producer on the project alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel. The script was written by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Mangold.
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled to be released in theatres on July 29, 2022, through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
