Even though we just had the 93rd Academy Awards a month ago, we already have some brand new details regarding when we will be able to watch next year’s Oscars ceremony and some of the key details that will lead up to the show.
Previously, the 94th Academy Awards were scheduled to commence on Sunday, February 27, 2022 but has now been pushed back to Sunday, March 27, 2022, a full month. For the most recent Academy Awards, the eligibility cutoff for films was February 28, 2021, allowing more films to qualify for award nominations due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But seeing as more theaters are starting to open up throughout the world, it seems as though things are slowly but surely getting back to normal, which is probably why for the upcoming ceremony, the cutoff date for film eligibility will be December 31, 2021. Although this is the case, the forthcoming awards show is allegedly still going to be shaped around the pandemic in one way or another.
Additionally, the Academy’s Governors Awards ceremony is expected to come back for the upcoming year, since it was cancelled last year due to COVID-19. Instead of commencing in the Fall season like usual however, it will be held on January 15, 2022. Initial Oscar nominee voting will start on January 27 through to February 1, with final voting starting on March 17 through to the 22nd.

Preliminary voting begins at 9am PT: December 10, 2021
Preliminary voting ends at 5pm PT: December 15, 2021
Oscar Shortlists Announcement: December 21, 2021
Eligibility period ends: December 31, 2021
Governors Awards: January 15, 2022
Nomination voting begins 9am PT: January 27, 2022
Nomination voting ends 5pm PT: February 1, 2022
Oscar Nominations Announcement: February 8, 2022
Oscar Nominee Luncheon: March 7, 2022
