First Trailer Drops for ‘Respect’

Next year’s Oscars might feel a long way away, but one contender you’re going to want to keep in mind is Respect, the new Aretha Franklin biopic from director Liesl Tommy. More specifically, you’re going to want to keep an eye on Jennifer Hudson, as the Oscar-winning actress is taking on the role of the legendary singer in this biopic. 

The official synopsis from MGM describes Respect as “following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, RESPECT is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice”. 

Alongside Hudson, the film stars Forest Whitaker, Audra McDonald, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Brenda Nicole Morrer, Marlon Wayans, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Kimberly Scott, LeRoy McClain, and Tate Donovan
