Interview: Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, and Kaitlin Olson Talk Women and Comedy in ‘Hacks’

The best comedy you haven’t seen yet premieres this Thursday, May 13th, and it’s on HBO Max. Jean Smart, a legendary actress who just recently has appeared in projects as diverse as Watchmen, Mare of Easttown, and Samantha Who? stars opposite newcomer Hannah Einbinder in Hacks, a hilarious new show about Deb, a veteran stand-up comic, whose popularity is flagging and who reluctantly gets matched up with Ava, a witty comedy writer still paying for a problematic tweet. Also on board is Kaitlin Olson of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame as Deb’s daughter DJ, who harbors plenty of resentment towards her celebrity mom.

Awards Radar had the opportunity to chat with these three very funny women about what attracted them to this show, being nice on set, and the state of women in comedy. Don’t be fooled by how well they get along in real life – as they say, the show works so well being of their acting (and their comedic timing).
