Sing Street and Once director John Carney has his next musical film set up and ready to go, and he’s got some massive names behind him for this one.
Titled Fascinating Rhythm, the film is being produced by Martin Scorsese and Irwin Winkler, and will feature music from the legendary George Gershwin.
The film will center on a young woman as she journeys through New York City past and present, inspired by Gershwin’s life and his iconic music, which include “Rhapsody in Blue”, “An American in Paris”, and so many more.
Carney is well-versed in the art of the original, unique film musical, having previously written and directed the aforementioned two Dublin-set indie musicals as well as the Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley starring Begin Again, set in Manhattan.
Currently, Carney is the showrunner of the Amazon original anthology series Modern Love, which recently announced that its upcoming second season will feature a cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Minnie Driver, Kit Harington, Garrett Hedlund, Anna Paquin, Miranda Richardson, and Sing Street stars Jack Reynor and Lucy Boynton. The first season released in 2019 starred Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Olivia Cooke, Andrew Scott, Shea Whigham, Cristin Milioti, Julia Garner, and Catherine Keener, among many others.
