So much of comedy is finding the right pairings of actors whose chemistry sparks on the screen. Oftentimes those pairings can come from unexpected places (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, anyone?), and Here Today gives us a duo that certainly wouldn’t have been one that people would imagine we’d ever get to see – Tiffany Haddish and Billy Crystal.
That’s definitely an unusual pairing on paper, yet it also represents a great mixture of the old guard of the veteran generation of great screen comedians and the new school that’s been rising over the past decade.
In the trailer for the new film, we see Crystal portraying a writer who is beginning to feel that age and finds a friendship in the excitement and energy he sees in Haddish, with the two of them forming a bond perhaps similar to the one that the two actors might have shared with one another.
Crystal directed the new film, and also co-wrote it with Alan Zweibel, which means that it’s clearly a film close to his heart. Having been a little off the radar for a while, it’s great to see Crystal back in films again (be sure to check out our recent interview with him here), and seeing him paired with Haddish looks like it’ll be an absolute delight.
Here Today also stars Penn Badgley, Laura Benanti, Louisa Krause, Anna Deavere Smith, and Nyambi Nyambi.
