While we still have a little bit of time left before our current awards season wraps up, studios already have their eyes set on next year, as evidenced by Sony setting a date for what will likely be one of the big players of the 2021/2022 awards.
Directed by Denzel Washington, Sony has dated A Journal for Jordan for a December 10th theatrical release in NY and LA, with a wide expansion happening on December 22nd.
The film stars Michael B. Jordan as 1st Sergeant Charles Monroe King, who writes a journal for his son to tell him how to live his life as a decent man before he is killed in action in Baghdad. The film is based on a New York Times best-selling memoir by Dana Canedy. Oscar nominee Virgil Williams (Mudbound) wrote the screenplay, and Chanté Adams co-stars in the film.
Could A Journal for Jordan lead to the first Oscar nomination for Michael B. Jordan, who somehow has not been nominated before now? Denzel Washington’s last film as a director, Fences, resulted in 4 nominations, including a win for Viola Davis. Definitely keep your eye on this one.
