‘In the Heights’ will Open the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival

First reactions for In the Heights came online yesterday, and it’s sounding like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jon M. Chu, and company have a massive hit on their hands.

Rotten Tomatoes shared an assortment of the responses from critics on Twitter, while you can also check out this Twitter thread from critic Diego Andaluz which has collected responses specifically from the Latinx community.

One glance at the response from those who have seen the film can tell you that this has all the makings of a smash summer musical that will please audiences and critics alike, perhaps even charting a course for next year’s Oscars.

Today marked another big announcement for the film, as this morning the Tribeca Festival announced that this year’s outdoor festival will open with the world premiere of In the Heights, playing at the United Palace theater in Washington Heights, the same neighborhood where the film takes place.

As part of Tribeca’s bold endeavor to host an in-person outdoor festival this year, the film’s opening night premiere will be screened simultaneously across all five boroughs in multiple open-air venues.

From all of the talk yesterday from those who have seen the film, it’s sounding like this is the perfect environment to host a crowd-pleasing massive event for the film to stir up its hype even further, and give the Tribeca Festival the kind of celebratory start it’s looking for.

In the Heights’ opening night premiere will be held on June 9th, with the Tribeca Festival running from June 9-20.
