BAFTA Night One Winners Led By ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’

The BAFTA Awards continue to break from tradition in a major way this year. After their decision to have smaller juries decide the nominations for many categories resulted in one of the most wildly exciting and unpredictable groups of nominees we’ve perhaps ever seen, the BAFTAs have split their awards presentation out over two nights.

Night one was dedicated to eight categories mostly in the craft section, awarding artists in the fields of visual effects, production design, and more.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom walked away from the night as the only film to garner multiple wins so far, giving it the narrow edge before the remainder of the categories are handed out on Sunday night.
