About a month ago, Tahar Rahim was kind enough to talk with us about his passionate work in The Mauritanian. That conversation (found here) was casual, honest, and showcased just how good a person he is. On top of that, Rahim is a top-tier actor, someone who will be a force in this industry for years to come. In fact, it’s hard to argue that he won’t be an Academy Award nominee in the not to distant future. Hell, this year is even a possibility. As voters cast their Oscar ballots, Rahim and I touched base once again. This time, we did it over Zoom, allowing for new wrinkle in video. Hopefully you can tell how much we enjoy talking to each other.
Below, you can watch my latest conversation with Rahim. Last time, we focused a lot on his process in the film, which was really interesting. This time, however, we kept it simple, mostly just enjoying each other’s company. With his nominations for Best Actor at BAFTA and the Golden Globes boosting his Oscar prospects, it was a perfect time to check in with him. As previously mentioned, he is tremendous in The Mauritanian. In my review of the movie (found here), I said the following about Rahim’s work:
Rahim especially is wonderful, giving a heartbreaking role the sort of dignity and heart that makes this a special experience. Without question, he’s the soul of this picture.
Here now is Part Two of my chat with The Mauritanian star Tahar Rahim. Enjoy:
The Mauritanian is out now!
