Paul Feig Casts Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington in His Next Film

Paul Feig is heading to Netflix, and he’s bringing Kerry Washington and Charlize Theron along for the ride!

Feig announced on Twitter today that the two will be starring in his upcoming fantasy film, The School for Good and Evil

The film is based on a YA novel by Someone Chainani, telling the story of two young female friends who attend rival fairy tale schools, one for Good, and one, as you could guess, for Evil.

Feig announced that Washington has been cast as a character named Professor Dovey, while Theron is set to play Lady Lesso. No word yet on the young stars who will be playing the leads, but one can imagine this as a scenario we’ve seen often the last couple of decades where a YA potential franchise has an ensemble loaded with big name actors in the adult roles.

Presumably the hope here is to set this up as the next big YA franchise, which could make it Theron’s second Netflix tentpole series going. We last saw her on screen last year in The Old Guard, which has been set up for a sequel. Of course, she is also set to return in her role as Cipher in the next Fast and Furious movie, currently set to be released on May 28th, 2021.

Washington also has her Netflix bonafides already, with her two most recent films, the high school musical The Prom and stage adaptation American Son, both having been made for the streamer.

Everyone is getting in the Netflix business these days, and it looks like they’ve got another big new property that people are going to be eager to see.
