The Critics Choice Association (CCA) have announced that Zendaya will receive their 5th annual SeeHer Award, which will be presented to her by her Malcolm & Marie co-star John David Washington during their live ceremony for the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, March 7th, 2021, airing at 7pm EST.
Previous recipients of the award are Kristen Bell, Viola Davis, Claire Foy, and Gal Gadot.
The President of SeeHer, Nadine Karp McHugh, said, “We are delighted to be presenting the award to Zendaya, who is such a strong representation of what it means to be a woman in 2021. One of the busiest rising stars in Hollywood – with a generation of Disney Channel fans, Marvel devotees and ‘Euphoria’ evangelists – she is a role model and leading voice of her generation. From being the youngest actress to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series to using her platform to advocate for Black women in Hollywood, she is showing the next generation that you are never too young to use your voice to make a difference. Inspiring girls everywhere to see themselves in their full potential, Zendaya represents everything SeeHer is.”
Zendaya’s career is rising to the stratosphere currently, as she’s picking up recognition for her performance in Sam Levinson’s new Netflix drama, including a Best Actress nomination at the Critics Choice Awards this year. This, of course, is all coming on the heels of her win for Lead Actress in a Drama Series at last year’s Emmys for her work in Euphoria, another collaboration with Levinson. She recently starred in the show’s two-part special event, receiving more acclaim for her performance in it.
The actress will be seen later this year (pending any release date shuffling) in Denis Villeneuve’s epic blockbuster Dune, currently scheduled to be released on October 1st, as well as the highly anticipated third entry in Marvel’s Spider-Man series, where she plays MJ, Tom Holland’s love interest with plenty of fight all her own. She will also soon begin shooting the second season of Euphoria, which Levinson plans to have released by the end of 2021.
You can see Zendaya receive the SeeHer award during the live Critics Choice Awards on March 7th, 2021.
