Interview: Demián Bichir Discusses Working On ‘Land’

There are few more deserved citation by the Academy in the past decade or so than when voters nominated Demián Bichir. Getting into the Best Actor race for A Better Life, Bichir not only impressed with his independent film, but managed to build on that nod. While Hollywood doesn’t always come calling for him with movies worthy of his talents, when he gets a good one, he knocks it out of the park. Whether it’s The Hateful Eight, The Midnight Sky, or Land, Bichir is a talent. In Robin Wright‘s directorial debut (reviewed here) he really goes above and beyond. In fact, it’s his best work since that nom for A Better Life.

Below, you can hear my discussion with Demián Bichir. Land gets most of the attention, as you’d imagine, but we obviously bring up A Better Life as well. Bichir is keeping busy, as he’s soon to be seen in Godzilla vs. Kong, too. This isn’t a man who rests on his laurels, and that’s part of why he’s so good at what he does. He’s also just a lovely guy, easy to talk to, and incredibly warm. So, it was a pleasure to chat with him, about a decade after I first interacted with him. That story gets a brief mention here, so be sure to listen for that. Plus, be sure to check out Land, which contains some terrific acting from Bichir.

Here now is my interview with Land co-star Demián Bichir. Enjoy:

Land is out on Friday!
