Interview: Delroy Lindo Discusses his Career Best Work in ‘Da 5 Bloods’

Delroy Lindo is one of the more underrated actors working today. Or, I should say, was one of the more underrated ones, since his time has come. His most recent collaboration with Spike Lee, Da 5 Bloods, has rightly got him the universal raves that he’s been so deserving of throughout his career. Lindo takes one of 2020’s trickiest roles, that of the MAGA hat wearing Paul, and absolutely delivers. In any normal time, it would be an honor to talk with him, but as he contends for a Best Actor nomination at the Academy Awards, which would be his first Oscar citation, it’s all the more of one.

Below, you can hear my chat with Lindo. He’s an incredibly generous man, spending some of our off-air time asking me about my last name (partly why our interview is on the shorter side. Apologies!). We talk about Da 5 Bloods, how he approached the role, and the trust he has in Lee. It may be a brief discussion, but it’s certainly a good one. He’s thoughtful and verbose with his answers, so even if I didn’t get to ask too much, he clearly provided some high quality answers. Listen to our talk, then revisit his work with Spike. Or, if you somehow haven’t watched the film yet, rectify that immediately…

Here now is my interview with Delroy Lindo. Enjoy:

Da 5 Bloods is streaming on Netflix!
