25th Annual Satellite Awards Nominations Announced

The Satellite Awards have announced their 25th annual nominations this year, honoring a vast array of properties from film and television.

The Satellites extend a majority of their categories to six nominees, making for some fun surprises and names you haven’t seen come up yet in a lot of other places. Some unexpected choices here would include Helena Zengel for News of the World and Nicole Kidman for The Prom in supporting actress, or the late, criminally underappreciated Brian Dennehy for Driveways in supporting actor.

Miss Juneteenth also featured among their ten nominees for Best Picture, Drama (as well as earning the Best First Feature special award), a nice surprise as the movie surges lately, although its star Nicole Beharie did miss out on a nomination in the leading actress category, where Kate Winslet and Sophia Loren received nominations for Ammonite and The Life Ahead, respectively.

Elsewhere we saw a lot of the expected titles dominating the field, with NomadlandPromising Young Woman, and Minari scooping up nominations in many categories. We’ll see who will come out the victor when they announce their winners on February 15th.
