Jeremy Irons Cast in Ridley Scott’s ‘Gucci’

The House of Gucci just gained a new member. Jeremy Irons has just joined the all-star cast of Ridley Scott’s Gucci, alongside Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and Al Pacino.

The film is based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. Forden’s book details the assassination of Maurizio Gucci as orchestrated by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, after Gucci left her for a younger woman.

Lady Gaga, in her first role since her Academy Award nominated turn in 2018’s A Star is Born, is set to play Reggiani, a role that could very well return her to the Oscars. Adam Driver will star opposite her as the slain Maurizio Gucci, and Irons has been cast as Gucci’s father (and son of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci) Rodolfo.

Ridley Scott has been trying to get a film about Gucci made for years. He originally announced his intention to make a film about the murder back in 2009, with Angelina Jolie in talks to play Reggiani. This current iteration is scripted by Robert Bentivegna, and will be produced by Scott and his producing partner (and wife) Giannina Scott, under their Scott Free Productions banner, along with Kevin Walsh. MGM has penciled the feature in on the calendar for a November 24, 2021 release.

Recently, Jeremy Irons was seen in the acclaimed Watchmen series on HBO, earning an Emmy nomination. He is currently in production on Netflix’s Munich, playing Neville Chamberlain in the adaptation of Robert Harris’ acclaimed novel of the same name.
