Maya Hawke to Star in ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Movie from Matt Johnson

You really can’t pin down Matt Johnson as a filmmaker. After getting his breakthrough with the tiny independent film The Dirties, he continued his found footage style ways with Operation Avalanche, before coming back a few years later with the impressively mounted BlackBerry. Just this year, Johnson adapted his own television show/web series into Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, as well as directed the young Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony. Now, his sights are set on adapting the card game Magic: The Gathering, and he has an exciting young actress to lead the way in Maya Hawke. More below.

According to Deadline, Hawke is going to star in Johnson’s adaptation of Magic: The Gathering. Johnson is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald. The film is said to be a bit of an ensemble, but Hawke apparently has one of, if not the, central roles. More on this one as we have it.
