Interview: Tyler Posey Talks Joining ‘Line of Fire’ and How His Character Fits into the Story

Episode 5 of Line of Fire, “Cul-de-Sac,” introduces NSA agent Brandon Hayes, portrayed by Tyler Posey, who developed a close friendship with Russell Hollingsworth (Taylor Bloom) while serving together in the Marines.

“I just think that my character, Brandon, is a really important character for Russell because Micah has Mike, Clare has Jane, and Russell’s new to the DOJ. He’s sort of floating in between. He even mentions in one of the earlier episodes that he feels alone,” he explained. “As a Marine, you form this crazy bond that is lifelong, and so to have that back in Russell’s life, he feels like he’s got a buddy and a partner now. I think it’s a really important role for the show, for Russell, and just for that storyline in general.”

Posey is set to recur on the drama and shared with me that he was a fan beforehand. “What it does a really good job at is, first of all, everything, but the natural sort of comedy that takes place during all of the really heightened moments that are happening throughout the show, whether it’s the family drama, the mysterious murders, or anything that law enforcement agents have to deal with on a daily basis. The breaking it up with this really just natural, relatable comedy, I think, is always such a really sweet spot in anything really, but especially with a show like this where it can be so heavy – the topics, the death, and just the drama and the family.”

He continued to express, “There’s a lot of shows out there that lean so heavy on the sort of drama aspect that it’s hard for me to watch. They’re still great shows, but there’s just something about this that is so pleasing, and it scratches that itch, and no matter what’s happening on the episode, if there’s a really crazy cliffhanger with some crazy violence and drama, you go to bed feeling good about yourself after watching the show just because it cuts that drama with such a lighthearted tone.”
