The first season of Ransom Canyon left fans with a massive cliffhanger: Ellie (Marianly Tejada) discovers that Yancy (Jack Schumacher) has a wife after he just asked her to marry him. As we return for season two, there’s a 6-month time jump, and his mysterious wife is still very much present. While the two didn’t go through with their wedding, Ellie is pregnant, making the whole situation even more complicated.
“Jack and I, we talked a lot about what that would have been like, I think, especially for me as Ellie,” she told me. “Obviously, she’s pregnant with his child now, so I’m like, I think at a certain point, I’m pretty sure that she’s like, I’m not doing this, this is too much drama. There was already a lot of drama about who he was, who he really was, what he was hiding, and whatnot in season one, so I think the wife, had it not been for the baby, would have been a deal breaker for her. But then they have to find it within themselves to fight for their family now because it’s not just them. And then, I think Yancy wins Ellie because, versus season one, he is pretty upfront and honest about even the darkest of things about his grifting past and why the wife is here. I think they very much team up to kind of take care of the wife situation together. So I’m like, okay, that gives him some purpose and some strength, and so Ellie can put up with some crap, because there’s a higher goal.”
But by the end, what Sidney did and the danger she represents in terms of Yancy’s past finally catch up to Ellie, and she makes the difficult decision to tell him to leave rather than starting their life together as a family, which they had been fighting for all season.
“She’s probably not going to be in a rush to passionately get back together with him, even if she has that love and that passion for him. I think it’s more of observing now, like, do you actually represent what I know our daughter deserves, and do you have your shit together, for the lack of a better phrase, enough to be the positive influence? Or at least in terms of our relationship. I don’t think Ellie would ever be like, you can’t be around your daughter. I think that they would figure that out if they were not together, or if they didn’t end up together. But in terms of, I need to trust him so that we have a healthy relationship, but then I have to observe that you are where you need to be for me to give you a chance.”
Tejada continued to express, “If I had it my way, it would be Ellie just minding her own business, raising her daughter, focusing on still her goals, but obviously, with the priority of motherhood, and just kind of taking a seat back and looking at Yancy, how he’s behaving, and how everything is moving in his life. Then, I think if Ellie sees that she can trust him without him having to do grand gestures, that would probably be the way they would start working on things.”
