Miles Teller has been a steady presence in Hollywood ever since first impressing with his supporting turn in Rabbit Hole. Going from a young actor to a leading man doesn’t often happen, but Teller has done it with a steadiness that suggest a long career still to come. Whether it’s Academy Award winning fare like Whiplash or mega blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, he attaches himself to the correct projects. Four years ago, I spoke to Teller (here) about his work on The Offer. Today, with Eternity now in theaters, I’ve decided to rank his best performances to date.
In my review of Eternity (here) from back at the Toronto International Film Festival, I had this bit to say about Teller and the main trio:
The trio of Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner are very charming, with each doing some nice work. Olsen is the most contemplative of the group, while Teller is the most logical, though all three add some nice layers to their character.
Below, you can see how Teller stacks up for me right now. The aforementioned Whiplash is his best work, at least to date (holding his own with Oscar winner J.K. Simmons is no small achievement), but don’t sleep on The Spectacular Now, where he’s incredibly good as well. In my eyes, he was a definite Best Actor snub there. I already mentioned Rabbit Hole and Top Gun: Maverick, both of which are top five rankers for him, demonstrating his chops in different ways, but there’s also underrated fare like Bleed for This and Thank You For Your Service. They didn’t work out as awards hopefuls, but once again showcased Teller quite well. If he keeps this up, he’ll be a nominee eventually. Where does Eternity rank on this list? Find out below.
