Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley Are Going to Write and Direct a New ‘Star Trek’ Movie

Few properties in Hollywood are bigger than Star Trek, and yet, of late no property has been harder for the industry to keep making. We’ve heard about a whole bunch of potential new Star Trek films, but nothing has gotten momentum. Well, today we can report that Paramount has found the creative team to get a new project off the ground. The auteurs? None other than Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. More below.

According to Variety, the pair are going to write, direct, and produce a new Star Trek movie. Interestingly, this is a wholly new franchise outing, not connected to anything that’s come before. So, while the duo had Chris Pine in their prior film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, he’s not going to be returning as Captain James T. Kirk. Will there be any Kirk at all, or will it be completely new characters? It sure seems like the latter, though more will come out in the weeks and months to come. Still, more Star Trek is on the way on the big screen, at last.
