Paul Mescal Will Be Campaigned in Best Supporting Actor for ‘Hamnet’

Ever since Hamnet premiered to raves at the Telluride Film Festival, Jessie Buckley has felt like a major contender in Best Actress. Her co-star Paul Mescal, however, has been a question mark, not for the quality of his work, but in terms of where he’ll be campaigned. Would it be in Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor? Well, Focus Features has come to a decision today.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mescal is going Supporting. Calculations of screen time have shown him to have far less than Buckley in Hamnet, so this makes sense. Whether it makes him a more or less likely Oscar nominee in Supporting Actor as opposed to Actor remains to be seen, but we now know where he will be campaigning. Adjust your lists accordingly.
