Joseph Kosinski has now set his first movie after the incredible success of F1 this summer, with a reboot of Miami Vice. The film will be produced by Universal Pictures, which has announced a release date of August 6, 2027, with casting currently underway.
The movie is set to explore the “glamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami” in a new version of the hit television series, inspired primarily by its pilot episode and first season. This is not the first time the show has been turned into a movie. Michael Mann took a crack at the source material with a 2006 adaptation starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, which was not critically well-received at the time but became a cult classic as the years went on.
Dan Gilroy and Eric Singer are writing the screenplay, with filming set to begin next year. Like Top Gun: Maverick and F1, Kosinski plans to film the movie with IMAX cameras. It is unclear if Claudio Miranda will return to collaborate with Kosinski again, as he is currently shooting Star Wars: Starfighter with Shawn Levy, but more information will surely arrive as the movie nears the beginning of production next year.
Keep an eye out for more updates on the film soon!
