Colombia Picks ‘A Poet’ for Best International Feature Entry at 2026 Oscars

As more countries select their picks for Best International Feature Film to submit for the 98th Academy Awards, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Colombia has entered A Poet as its submission for the Best International Feature Film category.

Directed by Simón Mesa Soto and starring Ubeimar Rios, the movie follows Oscar Restrepo, a failed writer who is given a second chance by mentoring a young and talented student and must stop making shortsighted decisions in order to succeed.

The film won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, to strong critical reviews. No release date is currently planned, but it was recently announced that 1-2 Special is handling domestic distribution for the film and plans to release it in cinemas soon.

The first shortlist of 15 films in contention for the International Feature Oscar will be announced on December 15, followed by the nominations on January 22.
