James Gunn Has Completed a Treatment for a ‘Superman’ Follow-Up

Superman is a smash hit, has the DC Universe on firm ground, and overall proved to be an excellent proof of concept for what James Gunn wants to do with this sandbox. Warner Bros is obviously going to be very eager for another Superman film, whether a sequel or something adjacent. Well, Gunn has given an update on that front, with movement on a new movie actually already in progress.

According to Collider, not only is Gunn and WB more or less fast-tracking the follow-up, Gunn has already done a treatment. Once it becomes a fully-fledged screenplay, they could hypothetically start pre-production. So, if you’re eager for more Superman, the wait for another film with the iconic hero won’t be quite as far off as you might have previously thought.

This is actually what Gunn said in the interview:

“We’re scheduling it now. I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later.”
