Over the past several weeks, we’ve seen the next James Bond movie begin to gear up. First, the Amazon MGM production landed a coup in hiring Denis Villeneuve as director. Then, in recent days, Steven Knight has come aboard to pen the screenplay. These are fairly high profile people taking on 007. With the next step being hiring an actor to play Bond, it seems like a good time to check in on the franchise’s moves with an Awards Radar Community question. Folks, what do you think of these picks?
If you’re on board with these selections, let us know. Denis Villeneuve is obviously one of the biggest directors in Hollywood right now, so the Bond franchise certainly landed a big fish there. Likewise, Steven Knight is a filmmaker in his own right, so having him writing the script is a pat on the back as well. If these moves are giving you hope that Amazon MGM might not screw this thing up, jump in and say so.
On the other hand, if something here isn’t really working for you already, tell us about it. Is it rooted in an issue with Knight and/or Villeneuve? Did you have someone else in mind for one or both of the gigs? Could it be the hope that the hired should be working on different projects? No matter the reason, we’re interested in your rationale.
The choice is now yours. Do you like the Knight and Villeneuve selections for Bond? If you’re thrilled, let us know. If you’re concerned about the direction of 007 as a property going forward, chime in as well. Whatever your take is on the matter, we’re all ears/eyes, so don’t be shy and have at it…
