After far too long a wait, the next James L. Brooks movie is coming this year. Ella McCay marks his first project since How Do You Know back in 2010. Emma Mackey stars as the title character, a young politician who becomes governor and has to balance all of that with family. The rest of the cast includes Woody Harrelson, Ayo Edebiri, Kumail Nanjiani, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Albert Brooks. Today, we learned that the movie is moving from a September bow, though it’s still a 2025 release.
According to Variety, Ella McCay is moving to December 12th from September 19th. This takes the movie from right around the fall film festivals to deep into awards season. A sign of confidence in the film? We shall see, but either way, the wait for Brooks’ latest just got a little longer.
