At the start of the Toronto International Film Festival last year, one of the more buzzed about titles without distribution was Eden. Directed by Ron Howard, it was a mysterious survival thriller that seemed like a real change of pace for him. Reviews were solid out of TIFF, including from our own Joey Magidson here, writing “When you think of Ron Howard the filmmaker, you think of a sturdy popcorn flick, in all likelihood. Rarely, if ever, does he take a bleak view of humanity. Eden, however, is very much on that level. Howard’s survival thriller, which has a darkly funny streak to it, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival with a bang. Howard may be a cuddly sort of guy, but here, his view of the world is that hell is other people.” No distributor picked it up when the festival ended, though that has now changed.
According to Deadline, Vertical has acquired Eden with a 2025 release date in mind. The film is planned to come out on August 22nd. Howard directs a script by Noah Pink, with the cast including Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, Sydney Sweeney, Toby Wallace, and Felix Kammerer. Look for more on the movie in the coming weeks and months.
