Ben Affleck to Star in ‘Animals’ in Addition to Directing

For a bit now, it had seemed like Ben Affleck‘s next directorial effort, Animals, was no longer happening. Apparently, the script wasn’t up to snuff, preventing it from moving forward. Well, that’s been resolved, though unfortunately original star Matt Damon has moved on to other things, including The Odyssey for Christopher Nolan. Luckily, Affleck hasn’t had to look far for his new leading man.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck himself will star in the film, in addition to directing, taking over for Damon. Also, it seems that Jennifer Garner won’t be joining the movie, as previously reported, with Gillian Anderson starring opposite Affleck. Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray have writing credits, with the crime thriller centering on a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped. Surrounded by enemies, both political and otherwise, the couple decide to get their hands dirty in order to save their son. Netflix will release the project, presumably next year.
