Oscar Voting is About to Close…Now, We Just Have to Wait for the Nominations

Greg Harbaugh – Image Group LA

After a few delays, it ends today, well at least Phase One. Later on in the day, ballots are due for Oscar voters. Once the deadline fully passes, it’ll just be a waiting game for everyone. The votes will be tabulated, we’ll all freak out about last minute surprises, but mostly, it’s just time to kick back. So, if you haven’t finalized your predictions yet, just know that nothing from today on matters a lick, vote-wise, in case you hear or see something that has you rethinking every prediction. It’ll be set in stone tonight. In some ways, that’s comforting, since the X factors will have been eliminated. In other ways, it just raises the anxiety level for some of you when trying to figure out what the Academy plans to do. Either way, here we are, ladies and gentlemen. The final moments.

I’ll get into it next week with my final predictions about where to look for surprises, who and what could be snubbed, etc, but for now, it’s the calm before the storm. The pieces of the puzzle are all in front of us. It’s just a matter of placing them correctly to figure out the impending Academy Award nominations. Especially after all of the tragedy due to the Los Angeles wildfires, this bit of normalcy coming up could well be a welcome salve.

Oscar has had their initial say. Now, all that’s left to do is wait. Predictions will be finalized soon and published in a few days, so sit tight there. We’ve had an unpredictable year, alongside an interesting season so far, so just ruminate on that for a minute. Soon, there will be plenty more to discuss…

Stay tuned for the Oscar nominations next week!
