It takes precise editing to tell the story of Bob Dylan. As you’ll see in my review in a few days, the title A Complete Unknown is quite apt for James Mangold’s film. At the same time, thanks to editors Andrew Buckland (who won the Oscar for Best Film Editing with a prior Mangold collaboration, Ford v Ferrari) and Scott Morris, no element of the movie ever drags. It’s a really pleasing feat to witness. I recently hopped on Zoom with Buckland and Morris to talk about the flick. Now, that conversation comes your way!
Below, you can hear my chat with Buckland and Morris. We spoke a lot about working with Mangold, working together, and how a film can come across the finish line in the editing room. They’re both very nice guys and easy to talk to, and in fact, while waiting for Morris I was just chatting with Buckland. You can easily hear how good they are at their jobs, but you can also see it on December 25th when A Complete Unknown opens in theaters.
Here now is my interview with A Complete Unknown editors Andrew Buckland and Scott Morris. Enjoy:
