After two short English films with The Human Voice and Strange Way of Life, Pedro Almodóvar is ready to make his first full-length English-language feature with The Room Next Door. Written and directed by Almodóvar, the film is an adaptation of Sigrid Nunez‘s What Are You Going Through and stars Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto, and Melina Matthews.
Here is the plot synopsis:
“The film follows Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton), who were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.”
The movie will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 2, before making its way to Toronto, San Sebastián and New York. It will release in New York and Los Angeles on December 20, before making its way to more cinemas on December 25. A full wide release is planned for January 2025.
