Searchlight Pictures has announced a very awards-friendly release date for James Mangold‘s A Complete Unknown. Written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, and adapted from Elijah Wald‘s Dylan Goes Electric, the film will star Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Scoot McNairy, P.J. Byrne, and Charlie Tahan.
The movie will hit cinemas on Christmas Day, a window where most big awards contenders make their way to venues. With Mangold and Chalamet attached to a Bob Dylan project, the prospects are high for the movie to at least be a major contender this upcoming Oscar season. The plot synopsis is found below:
“Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician BOB DYLAN’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.”
