Today brings the first official trailer for Anora, billed as a love story from Sean Baker. The movie won the coveted Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival this year, setting it up as potentially the first big time Oscar vehicle for Baker.
Anora stars Mikey Madison in the title role, with Baker writing and directing. The plot is described as follows: “Anora, a sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.”
NEON will be releasing the film on October 18th, likely after a further festival run. From the looks of it, they have a fun and profane player that should not be discounted.
