After winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Sean Baker‘s Anora is currently riding high. Set to be released by NEON, the distributor likely has an Oscar player on their hands. Well, they’re certainly treating it as such, with the movie today being given an October release date.
NEON has announced that Anora will be coming to theaters on October 18th. Baker wrote and directed the film, which has the following plot synopsis: “Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.”
Mikey Madison stars in the title role, with the supporting cast being led by Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan. Look for Anora to play some of the fall film festivals, like Telluride and/or Toronto, before release. Stay tuned for more on this one!
