321 Films Qualify for Oscars, With 265 Eligible for Best Picture

The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences has announced that 321 films qualify for Oscar contention this year, with 265 eligible for Best Picture consideration. Among some of the films that qualify for Oscars but not for Best Picture include Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Creator, Dumb Money, The Marvels, and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

One of the elements that can now disqualify a film from Best Picture contention is the implementation of new eligibility rules that require contenders to meet certain indicators in regards to diversity and inclusion in their productions. This is the first year that this rule has been enforced, though the aforementioned films don’t mean that they failed to meet the eligibility criteria, with the studios also choosing to opt out of Best Picture contention for select titles.
