Marvel Studios Fires Jonathan Majors After Guilty Verdict

Marvel Studios has fired Jonathan Majors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the actor was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment following a trial caused by his arrest in March between him and his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Majors faces up to one year in prison and will be sentenced on February 6.

Before his arrest, Majors was dubbed as a rising star by many, having worked on The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Da 5 Bloods, and Lovecraft Country before being cast as Kang the Conqueror, the main villain of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga in the first two seasons of Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. A performance in Michael B. Jordan’s Creed III also propelled him further into stardom, while another movie, Magazine Dreams, was receiving strong word-of-mouth from Sundance (reviewed here by Joey), with Disney planning to do an Awards campaign for Majors in the wake of his rising success.

However, the film was ultimately pulled from its release schedule after his arrest, with publicity firms The Lede Company and Entertainment 360 dropping him as a client. He was also pulled from many potential roles, including starring in an adaptation of The Man in the Basement, with his role planning to be recast.

Marvel Studios still plans to move forward with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as Michael Waldron is now penning a new script from the film, but the role of Kang the Conqueror will now have to be recast. The film is set to release on May 1, 2026.
