Interview: Talking About ‘The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial’ with Kiefer Sutherland

Imagine taking on the role of Lt. Commander Queeg, captain of the U.S.S. Caine. Portrayed famously by Humphrey Bogart in The Caine Mutiny, he clearly casts a shadow on anyone who’d dare play the part. So, for Kiefer Sutherland to take it on in the first place takes guts, but working under the guidance of the late William Friedkin in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial certainly helps things, leading to one of his best performances to date. Having enjoyed the film substantially when it was released, I recently had the opportunity to hop on Zoom with Sutherland to discuss the hows and whys of playing Queeg. Today, our chat comes your way!

Below, you can see my conversation with Sutherland. He’s way more fun to chat with than I’d expected, as he’s nothing like the intense parts that he often plays. Not only does he have a few really incredible stories to share, he’s also got lots to say about what makes his take on Queeg stand out so much. I had a blast talking with him, and I do think the feeling was mutual, which is always an added benefit. The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial is an absolute blast, whether you’ve seen The Caine Mutiny or not, so if you haven’t given it a look yet, now is a perfect time…

Here now is my interview with The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial star Kiefer Sutherland. Enjoy:
