On Christmas morning, if you hear a strange whooshing sound it may be Saint Nick finishing his deliveries or it might just be the sound of the TARDIS taking viewer son another timey-whimy adventure. The newly introduced Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) along with his new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) are bringing some added excitement to the holiday with the return of the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Disney+ released a new teaser trailer that will certainly have a lot of fans adding the special to their holiday gift list (below).
The special called “The Church on Ruby Road,” was a surprise announcement at the end of the third Doctor Who 60th Anniversary special, “The Giggle.” During the episode (spoilers) viewers met the Fifteenth during a first ever Time Lord bi-regeneration that had Gatwa emerging mid-regen from the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant), literally splitting The Doctor in two simultaneously existing Time Lords.

Back to the upcoming Christmas Special, it sounds like a classic Who gift to the fans. As described by Disney+ as follows, “Long ago on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, stolen babies, goblins and perhaps the secret of her birth.” You can watch the teaser trailer and check out exclusive new stills from the episode below.
To celebrate the arrival of the new Doctor, Gatwa and Gibson pushed the button lighting the London Eye landmark in the colors of the iconic Doctor Who Time Vortex. Additionally, the duo attended a blue carpet world premiere screening of the Christmas Special including a Q&A with the new duo and showrunner Russell T Davies at the British Film Institute, Southbank.
