Short films have a very tough mission. Of course, they have to be compelling narratives, contain strong performances, and everything else that goes into a feature. However, they have to do it in such a limited amount of time, whenever they succeed, it does kind of fee like a miracle. One example this year is The After, which features wonderful work from star David Oyelowo. Recently, Oyelowo and filmmaker Misan Harriman sat down to discuss the film with me. What follows is a conversation that, like life, is funny and moving in equal measure.
Below, you can see my discussion with Harriman and Oyelowo. We don’t spoil what happens in the movie, which you should obviously check out on Netflix, but we definitely get into the emotions of the story. That leads to some very personal stories from the three of us, so be warned there, we get heavy, but there’s also some laughs.
